When life feels exhausting

When life feels exhausting

When life feels exhausting

One of the most important things to consider when we’re looking at our personal wellbeing is, overwhelm. So many of us reach this point without even realising it. Work, children, household duties, caring for elderly parents and the myriad of other things we’re expected to pack into a single day, let alone a week, month or a year! Even our so-called ‘weekends off’ are usually packed to the brim with the things we couldn’t complete during the week. Yet we just keep going and going, as though there was no other option.

So what can we do?

LET IT GO
For me, after years of struggling alone and reaching the point of total overwhelm and exhaustion, I began by letting go of all the small things that were taking up so much of my time, yet were not adding any real value to my life. I made a list of everything! Did I really need to do a, b and c? I’d been doing them for so long that I hadn’t ever really considered what would happen if I stopped. This is a biggie, you have to be really strict with yourself and the best way to let go of the ‘stuff’ on the list is to remember the payoff – health, happiness and a life you actually enjoy getting up for in the morning.

ASK FOR HELP
This is another biggie! We become so convinced that no-one can do the things that we do in our day to day lives. Or perhaps we’re embarrassed to admit that we need help. Something remarkable happened for me when I reached out for help, I found that people loved helping! 🙂

TAKE TIME OUT
Pencil in some ‘YOU’ time. Not a one-off, but regular, committed times where you do something special just for you. The most important word in that sentence is ‘regular’. By this, I mean every single day. A walk in nature, meeting a friend for coffee and a chat, some retail therapy or window shopping if funds are tight, read a book, get your hair done, listen to music, learn to meditate, join a gym and hang out in the sauna, go for a swim or sit in the garden and simply breathe. There are literally 100’s of small things you can do on a daily basis which will make a huge difference to your life. And remember this… Be totally committed, your time out is non-negotiable! <3
